特色簡介 Feature Description

分佈於花東縱谷的落葉灌木或小喬木。「火刺木」顧名思義就是果實紅熟時滿樹如火,枝條上面長滿了細刺。臺東火刺木在春天開滿小白花,能吸引蜜蜂採蜜,秋冬結果期時,能欣賞這種鳥兒在樹上爭食的模樣。因為果實豔麗討喜的模樣,花農使用修剪整枝技術,生產成盆景上市販售,又名「狀元紅」,是年節應景的觀賞植物。

Taitung Firethorn is a deciduous shrub or small tree distributed in the East Rift Valley of Taiwan. It’s named after the scene when the tree is full of ripe red fruits, and the branches are covered with fine thorns. White flowers bloom in spring and attract bees to gather nectar. In autumn and winter, you can appreciate the scene of birds fighting for food on the trees. The beautiful and lovely fruits are higly ornamental, flower farmers use pruning techniques to produce bonsai for sale. It is also known as "Zhuangyuanhong", a festive ornamental for the Chinese New Year.

簡介 Description

火刺木屬落葉灌木或喬木,分佈於臺灣花東縱谷。長橢圓形葉3~5枚叢生葉端凹鈍,幼葉有被毛。複繖房花序自葉腋伸出,白色花5瓣。紅色果實扁球形。開花期春季,結果期秋、冬季。

A deciduous shrub or tree in the genus Pyracantha, distributed in East Rift Valley of Taiwan. The long, oval and apex obtuse leaves emerge in a cluster of three to five. Young leaves are coated with indumentum. Compound umbel inflorescence extending from leaf axils. Flowers are white, with 5 petals and fruits are red and oblate. Bloom in spring and fruiting from autumn to winter.

栽培 Cultivation

需充足陽光,栽培位置以南、西向陽台最佳。介質須排水良好。果實觀賞期結束後進行整枝修剪,修剪時要多留意莖上的棘刺。如果要當作綠籬或是綠壁使用,可以將長伸的枝條牽引綁繫。春、夏季各施一次長效性肥料。

It requires enough sunshine, and best grows in the south and west facing balconies. Medium soil must be well drained. Prune after fruit viewing period. Watch for thorns on the branches when pruning. For use as a hedgerow or a green wall, you can tie up and fix the long stretching branches. Apply long-active fertilizers once in spring and summer.

春季開花繁盛,秋季果實紅豔,是最佳的蜜源與鳥類食餌,具有重要的生態價值。因為枝條堅韌而且有棘刺,當作綠籬阻隔效果好,亦是盆景的主要素材之一,適合修整纏編模仿古樹的造型。

It blooms prosperously in spring and fruits turn crimson in autumn, which is the best source of honey and bird food which has significant ecological values. Thanks to its tough and spiny branches, it can be planted as an excellent barrier hedge. It’s also one of the main materials for bonsai or trimmed into the shape of a tangled antique tree.
