大戟屬的喬木型多肉植物，原產非洲東部至南部。莖直立生長，在原產地可高達6~18m。主幹健壯，有密集的分枝。莖徑約10cm，外皮綠色光滑，4~5稜，15~25cm一段收縮，稜上互生披針形葉。葉長7cm，寬1.5cm，短暫存在於新芽上後即脫落；葉基有一對短刺，長約0.5cm。黃色大戟花序長於枝端稜上。

A tree succulent in the genus Euphorbia, native to eastern and southern Africa. Stem erect, up to 6-18 m tall in the origin habitat. Trunk robust and densely branched. Stem 10 cm across, bark green and smooth, 4-5 ribs, constricted into ovate segments approx. 15-25 cm long. Leaves lanceolate and alternately arranged on the ribs, 7 cm long and 1.5 cm wide, defoliating after briefly present on new shoots; a pair of short spines borne on the leaf base, about 0.5 cm long. Yellow cyathium borne on the tip of ribs.

栽培：全日照通風環境下可生長良好。根系強健，只要排水良好介質都可以種植。需要在介質中加入粗砂或小石頭以增加重量來支撐植物。因為分枝量體大，重心大都在植株上部，因此須立支柱避免倒伏。高溫期生長，介質乾就澆水，露地栽培幾乎不須管理。

This plant thrives in full sun and airy conditions. The root is hardy and can adapt to all types of draining soil mixed with coarse sand or small stones to add weight to support the plant. Because the plant has heavy branches with high center of gravity, it’s advised to erect pillars to support and protect the plant from lodging. It grows in warm seasons and needs watering when the soil appears dry; not requiring special care if cultivated in open fields.

外型壯碩粗壯，有仙人掌的外型但看不到刺，會給人較溫和的感覺。適合幼株種植於陶瓦盆中，或成株種植於直徑60cm以上的大盆器中。露地栽培須選避風處以免風倒。

The plants look sturdy and stout, cactus-like but spineless, thus more approachable to people. The plantlets are suitable to be planted in pottery pots, while adult ones better planted in large pots over 60 cm across. For open field cultivation, a leeward location is preferred to protect the plant from strong wind.
