三角柱屬半木質藤本，原產墨西哥。莖長可達3~15m，為了度過旱季莖部發展成肉質化，綠色三角柱狀，節間有攀緣根，老枝邊緣常呈現淡褐色；葉退化為刺，長在刺座上。白色碩大的花朵花於天黑後逐漸開放，到晚上十點許全開，散發出芳香，以吸引蛾類等昆蟲授粉，清晨花冠逐漸閉合，日出後花朵就凋謝。開花期春至秋季。

A semi-woody vine in the genus Hylocereus, native to Mexico. The stem can reach 3~15m high. In order to survive dry seasons, the stem has evolved to a fleshy, green triangular column, with climbing roots at the internodes, the edges of old branches often appear light brown; the leaves degenerate into spines grown on the areole. The large white flowers gradually bloom after dark, and fully open around 10 o’clock at night, emitting fragrant scent to attract insects such as moths to pollinate. In the early morning, the corollas gradually close, and the flowers wilt after sunrise. Flowering from spring to autumn.

栽培：全日照環境下可生長良好，介質使用壤土或砂質壤土，可作畦種植以促進排水。架設棚架或水泥柱等設施以提供植物支撐，主要是以扦插繁殖來確保品種。為了掌控火龍果的品質，同一枝條上建議不宜留存超過2個果實。

The plant enjoys full-sun environments. Choose loam or sandy loam and rib plantation to promote drainage. Facilities such as scaffolding or cement columns are provided to buttress the plant growth. Reproduced mainly by cutting to ensure the breed purity. In order to secure the fruit quality, it’s not advised to retain more than two fruits on one branch.

果實甜美多汁可以食用，因紅色果實外表苞片形似鱗片，因此稱為火龍果。富含大量果肉纖維，有豐富的水溶性甜菜苷色素及脂溶性胡蘿蔔素，種子可以做成種子盆栽以供觀賞。

The edible fruits are sweet and juicy. Because of the scaly spines on the fruit exterior, it’s also called dragon fruit, it contains rich pulp fiber, water-soluble beetroot betalain and fat-soluble carotene. The seeds can be made into seed pots for ornament purpose.
