花座球屬，原產墨西哥。莖單生，桶狀球形，高20cm，直徑最大20cm，13~18條稜。中刺1~3支，側刺6~10支，刺初生時紅棕色後轉為褐色。成熟植株莖頂長出墊狀的花座，花座白色有紅色鬃毛。花粉紅色至紫色，花徑約1cm，環狀排列開放於花座上。開花期夏季。果實長梨形。

A plant of the genus Melocactus, native to Mexico. Stem solitary, barrel-shaped, 20 cm high and 20 cm in diameter, 13-18 ribs bearing 1 - 3 central spines and 6 - 10 radials. New spines are reddish brown and then turn brown. A white mat-like cephalium grown at the stem apex with red bristles. Flowers pink to purple, 1 cm in diameter, arranged in a ring on the cephalium. Flowering in summer. Fruits long pear-shaped.

栽培：全日照通風環境下可生長良好，日照充足時可促進開花。炎夏時切勿讓植株曝曬，以免產生日燒等曬傷跡象。本屬大多是根系比較孱弱的種類，為了防止爛根等情形，需採用排水透氣的介質。冬季寒流時植株進入休眠期，應控制澆水以免爛根。

The plant grows well in full-sun and ventilated conditions. Sufficient sun exposure can promote flowering, however, exposure in hot summer may cause signs of scorch, such as sunburn. Most species of this genus have a weaker root system, so it requires draining and breathable soil to avoid root rotting and other problems. It goes dormant in freezing cold winters, control watering to prevent rotten roots.

球體的觀賞性較低，待長出奇特的花座後觀賞價值會提高。玩家形容花座為蛋糕或是派，會隨著植株生長而逐漸昇高像土耳其帽子，因此英文俗稱為 Turk’s Cap，相當有趣。

The plant itself is not appealing until the unique cephalium grows up. Fans describe the cephalium as a cake or pie, and will gradually rise up like a Turkish hat when the plant grows, that’s how its English name Turk ’s Cap comes.
