龍血樹屬常綠喬木或灌木，原產中南半島至海南島的熱帶森林與海岸林。一般樹高3~4m，主幹直或彎曲，天然分枝較少。幼枝有環狀葉痕。長披針形葉聚生於枝端，長70cm，寬1.5~3cm。圓錐花序自葉腋伸出，白綠色花筒狀，開花期夏季，盆栽者難以開花。

An evergreen tree or shrub in the genus Dracaenas, native to tropical forests and coastal forests from the Indochina Peninsula to Hainan Island. Tree height generally 3~4m, main trunk straight or curved, with fewer branches in the wild. Young branches bear ring-shaped leaf scars. Leaves long lanceolate, clustered at the ends of branches, 70cm long and 1.5-3cm wide. Panicles extending from the leaf axils, flower white-green and tube-shaped. Blooming in summer, however rarely flowering if grown in containers.

全日照或半日照環境，但長期光線不足葉片會軟弱。介質需排水良好，具耐旱性，介質乾燥才澆水，每季施用一次長效性綜合肥料。繁殖使用扦插、播種法。

The plant does best in full-sun or partial-sun environments, lack of sunlight for a long time may cause limping leaves. It’s tolerant to drought and requires well-drained medium, water only when the medium is dry. Apply a slow-release compound fertilizer once a season. Propagated from cuttings and seeds.

樹型特殊，生命力堅韌，適合盆植擺放或單植於庭園內，常搭配於石景旁。市面上作為盆栽的海南龍血樹，常將老葉剝除，以減少葉片量讓植株看起來較輕盈。有龍血樹之名，是因為本屬植物有幾種的莖部受傷流出的汁液，氧化後變成紅色，於藥材稱為龍血、麒麟血，具有活血散淤的藥效。
