毛柱屬多肉質灌木，原產巴西東北部。株高1.5~3m，從基部分枝。莖直徑4~7cm，有22~23條稜。稜上刺座有6~8支中刺，長1~3cm；側刺9~12支，長0.4~1cm，刺淺黃色半透明，密集分佈植株上，使全株呈金黃色。花芽的位置會長出如髮的金黃色剛毛，長4~6cm。漏斗形白色花，外側粉紅至淺褐色。花長10~12cm，直徑3.5cm。

A succulent shrub of the genus Pilosocereus and native to northeastern Brazil. Height 1.5 - 3 m, branches bifurcated from the base. Stem diameter 4 to 7 cm, 22 to 23 ridges. Areoles bearing 6 to 8 central spines, 1 to 3 cm long; 9 to 12 radials, 0.4 to 1 cm long. Pale yellow and nearly translucent spines densely cover the plant which gives the plant a golden glow. 4 - 6 cm long golden bristles emerge where the flower buds are borne. Funnel-shaped white flowers are tinged with pink to light brown in the rim. Flower 10-12 cm long and 3.5 cm in diameter.

栽培：全日照溫暖至冷涼環境。因植株高大質量重，栽培介質須有足夠重量以支撐植株，可使用砂質壤土、赤玉土混合碎石種植。定植後不須常澆水，每季施用一次長效性綜合肥料。繁殖使用播種、扦插法。

The plant grows well with full sun, warm to cold conditions. The adult ones are tall and weighty so the cultivated soil has to be heavy enough in order to hold up the plant; sandy loam or red earth soil can be mixed with gravels to add weight to the soil. Frequent watering not required after replanting. Apply long-active comprehensive fertilizers once a season. Propagated by seeding and cutting.

幼株可以用盆栽單植，生長超過30cm時應使用陶、瓦盆等較重的容器種植以免倒伏；大株適合直接露地栽培於庭園或用盆徑2呎以上大盆器種植。可作為沙漠造景主角。

The plantlets can be planted alone in pots and then repotted in heavier containers such as pottery or porcelain pots to avoid toppling over when they grow up to 30 cm. Larger ones are more suitable for open field cultivation, like gardens or in large pots in a diameter of 2 feet or bigger. It can also be an accent plant in desert-like landscape.
