柃木屬常綠灌木，原產中國華南、日本、韓國及臺灣北部濱海地區。樹高1~2m，樹皮黑褐色，嫩枝有毛。二列互生倒卵形或披針形革質葉，葉長2~3cm，葉寬1.2~1.8cm，葉緣有鋸齒。花2~3朵下垂開於葉腋，白色花瓣5枚，花徑約0.5cm。黑色果實球形，直徑約0.4cm。開花期冬至春季，結果期春至夏季。

An evergreen shrub in the genus Eurya, native to the coastal areas of southern China, Japan, South Korea and northern Taiwan. Tree height 1-2 m, bark dark brown, and shoots pilose. Leaves alternate in two rows, obovate or lanceolate, leathery, 2-3 cm long and 1.2-1.8 cm wide, margin serrated. 2 to 3 flowers drooping and axillary, approx. 0.5 cm across, with 5 white petals. Fruits black and spherical, approx. 0.4 cm across. Flowering from winter to spring, and fruiting from spring to summer.

適合全日照溫暖環境，植株具耐旱性，根部忌積水潮濕。每季施用一次長效性肥料，修剪以細弱枯枝與過密枝為主。繁殖使用播種與扦插法。

It suitably grows in full-sun and warm environments; drought-tolerant. Apply long-active fertilizers once a season, and trim off mainly the weak and overdense branches. Reproduction is by seeds and cuttings

葉色墨綠油亮，枝葉緻密，天然樹形優美，適合作為庭園整形樹或列植為綠籬。盆景界亦常作為材料，修剪雕塑為優美的作品。花朵可吸引昆蟲，果實可吸引鳥類食用，具有生態意義。

Featuring with dark green and glossy foliage, dense crown and elegant shape, it’s suitably used as a garden topiary tree or a hedge. The trees are also often used by bonsai enthusiasts to create beautiful works after trimming and shaping. The flowers are attractive to insects, while the fruits are a good food source to birds, which is of ecological significance.
