大戟屬多肉質灌木，原產於非洲中部。乳汁有毒。莖豎直生長，分枝角度狹小。外皮光滑，深綠色有淡綠或淡紅褐大理石般花紋。有3稜，稜緣波浪形，突出處有紅褐色對生刺。互生倒披針形至長卵圓形葉，乾旱時易掉落。園藝栽培時罕見開花。

A succulent shrub of the genus Euphorbia, native to Central Africa. Latex poisonous. Stems erect and upright in narrow branching angles. Outer skin smooth, dark green with pale green or reddish brown marble patterns. 3 wavy-margined ridges, reddish-brown opposite spines borne on the protrusions. Leaves alternate, lanceolate to long-ovate, defoliating easily during droughty period. Cultivars rarely bloom.

栽培：全日照通風環境下可生長良好。生長強健，排水良好介質都可以栽培。盆栽可觀察介質乾才澆水，露地栽培幾乎不須澆水。自然分枝旺盛，但因分枝角度小常有枝條過密的情形，可進行修剪，操作時要注意乳汁與細小的棘刺。

The hardy plant grows well in full sun and good ventilation and adapts to most types of well-draining soil. Watering needed only when the soil appears dry for potted plantation and minimal water use for open field plantation. Easy-growing branches bifurcated in small angels often results in overdense branches which requires regular pruning. Pay attention to the latex and fine spines when carrying out pruning.

造型聳直挺拔，常叢植作為庭園灌叢或列植為綠籬，具有良好的阻隔效果。幼株可作迷你盆栽單株種植，或與其他多肉植物組合設計。園藝栽培以植株顏色較紅的品種為主。

Shaped erect and upright, the plant is a great barrier and suitable to plant in clusters as garden bush or hedges. The plantlets can be planted alone in mini pots, or mixed with other succulents. Cultivars are mainly the redder ones.
