海棗屬常綠喬木，原產南亞。單幹直立，老熟後略彎曲，葉落時在幹上殘留脊骨狀葉痕。羽狀複葉，長披針形小葉對生，葉面濃綠色，葉背綠色，幼葉稍帶白粉，葉柄基部有刺，葉鞘有纖維。雌雄異株，肉穗花序，花黃綠色具芳香味，夏季開花。漿果卵狀橢圓形，熟時果色橘黃至紫黑色。

An evergreen tree in the genus Phoenix, native to South Asia. Single stem erect, slightly recurved when old, with spine-like leaf scars left on the stem when the leaves falling off. Leaves pinnate compound, long lanceolate, opposite, dark green above and green below, leaflets slightly white-powdered, stalk base spiny, leaf sheath fibrous. Dioecious, spadix, flowers yellow-green and fragrant, flowering in summer. Fruits are oval berries, turning from orange to purple-black when ripe.

全日照或半日照，喜高溫多濕。耐旱、耐鹼、耐風吹，抗污染，適合在含腐植土的砂質土壤中生長。根淺，水土保持不佳。以種子繁殖。
