花座球屬多肉植物，原產於墨西哥至南美洲西南部。扁球形至球形，外皮深綠色，直徑8~27cm，高6~30cm，有10~16條稜。白色刺座生長於稜的下凹處；色中刺末端黑色；側刺6~11枝。植株頂端發育為花座，由紅棕色鬃毛構成，高3~4cm，直徑7~11cm。花桃紅色，花徑1~2.5cm。粉紅色果實短棒狀。開花期春至夏季。

A succulent plant of the genus Melocactus, native to Mexico and southwestern South America. Shaped oblate to spheroid, outer skin dark green, 8 - 27 cm in diameter, 6 - 30 cm in height, with 10 - 16 ridges. White areoles grow in ridge axils; central spines tip black; 6 - 11 radials. Apical cephalium is composed of red-brown bristle, 3 - 4 cm high and 7 - 11cm in diameter, pink flowers, 1 - 2.5 cm in diameter. Fruit pink, short stick-shaped. Flowering from spring to summer.

栽培：全日照通風環境下可生長良好，日照充足時可促進開花。炎夏時切勿讓植株曝曬，以免產生日燒等曬傷跡象。為了防止爛根等情形，需採用排水透氣的介質。高溫期生長，可觀察介質乾透後才澆水；低溫期休眠，應節水或斷水以助越冬。

The plant grows well with full sun and good ventilation. Sufficient sun exposure can promote flowering, however, exposure in high summer may cause sunburn. Advised to plant in draining and breathable soil to avoid root rotting. It grows in warm seasons, water only when the medium completely dries; the cactus usually becomes dormant in winter, it only needs minimal or no water use overwinter.

本屬仙人掌球體頂端的花座是最醒目的特徵，造型像派餅或蛋糕，開花時有如蛋糕上的裝飾，結果像是蛋糕上的小蠟燭，可愛的模樣十分吸引目光。

The most eye-catching feature of this genus is the apical cephalium, the plant’s shape looks like cake decoration when blooming, and tne fruit looks like lovely candles on cake, which are very attractive.
