金鯱屬多肉植物，原產於墨西哥中部。球形或桶形，高、寬可達90cm以上。外皮淺綠色，有21-37條稜。刺座淺黃色，黃色刺長3cm，側刺8-10支。黃色花直徑4-5cm。開花期春至夏季。

A Echinocactus genus succulent plant, native to central Mexico. Spherical or barrel shape, the height and width can reach more than 90cm. The outer skin is light green, 21 to 37 ridges. Light yellow areole, with 3-cm-long yellow spines, and 8-10 lateral spines. Yellow flowers, 4-5cm in diameter. Flower from spring to summer.

栽培：全日照通風環境下可生長良好，日照充足時可促進開花。炎夏時切勿讓植株曝曬，以免產生日燒等曬傷跡象。為了防止爛根等情形，需採用排水透氣的介質。耐寒性強，原產地可耐至零度以下。高溫期生長，可觀察介質乾就澆水；低溫期需節水。

The plant favors full sun and good ventilation. Sufficient sun exposure can promote flowering, however, exposure in high summer may cause signs of scorch, such as sunburn. Plant in draining and breathable soil to avoid root rotting. It’s cold-tolerant and can withstand a low temperature to 0°C in the original habitats. The plant is a summer grower, requires frequent watering whenever the soil is dried and reduces watering in winter

最具代表性的仙人掌，植株大型醒目，宛如地球儀般的型態。常種植於植物園、觀光農場等地展示。植株生長緩慢，株齡20年以上才會開花，在原產地株齡可達百年。

The most famous cactus for its large and globular shape, commonly is planted in botanical gardens, recreational farms and so on. The plant grows slowly, and it will bloom after more than 20 years of age, some of its kind can live up to 100 years in the native area.
