紫金牛屬常綠灌木或喬木，廣佈南亞至東南亞濱海地區。互生革質倒卵形或倒披針形葉片。繖形花序自近枝端的葉腋伸出，花下垂，粉紅色或白色花瓣5枚。漿果扁圓形，未熟果紫紅色，成熟果黑色。開花春至夏季，結果夏至秋季。

An evergreen shrub or tree in the genus Ardisia, widely distributed from South Asia to Southeast Asia littoral areas. Alternate leaves are leathery, obovate or inverted lanceolate. Umbellate inflorescences develop in leaf axils at the end of branches. Flowers droop, with 5 pink or white petals. Fruits produce oblate berries, initially reddish purple and then changes to black when ripe. Flowering from spring to summer and fruiting from summer to autumn.
