海桐屬常綠喬木或灌木，原產中國華南、越南、菲律賓以及臺灣。嫩枝有紅褐色毛。革質倒卵形葉簇生於枝端，搓揉葉片有特殊氣味。圓錐花序自枝端伸出，白色花瓣5枚，有芳香。黃、橘色蒴果圓形，裂開露出具紅色黏液的種子。開花春至秋季，結果秋至冬季。

An evergreen tree or shrub in the genus Pittosporum, native to South China, Vietnam, the Philippines and Taiwan. New shoots are coated with reddish-brown hair. Leathery obovate leaves are borne clustered at the ends of branches and emit special scent when they are crushed. Panicles protrude from the branches, with 5 white and fragrant petals. Fruit is a globular capsule, yellow to orange in color, burst on ripening to reveal seeds coated with red sticky mucus. Flowering from spring to autumn and fruiting from autumn to winter.

適合全日照溫暖環境，原產濱海環境，枝葉耐風、根系耐鹽與乾燥，土壤忌積水潮濕。肥料每季施用一次長效性綜合肥料。天然樹形優美，一般不需要修剪。繁殖採用播種法。
