藍蝴蝶屬常綠或落葉灌木。原產非洲烏干達。葉對生或3~4葉輪生，長橢圓形至倒卵形，葉緣有鋸齒。由聚繖花序組成圓錐花序，伸出於枝端。花冠5裂，左右兩對淺藍色裂片排列似蝴蝶翅膀，下裂片深藍色像蝴蝶身體，雌雄蕊彎曲長伸，全花造型狀似蝴蝶。開花期夏至秋季。

An evergreen or deciduous shrub in the genus Rotheca, native to Uganda in Africa. Leaves opposite, or in whorls of 3-4, oblong to obovate, margin serrated. Panicles composed of cymes, extending from the branch tips. Corolla 5-lobed, two pairs of pale blue lobes arranged like butterfly wings, the lower lobes colored dark blue resembling the body of butterfly. Pistil and stamen both curvy and elongated; flower butterfly-like. Flowering from summer to autumn.

適應半日照至全日照的環境；於烈日曝曬葉色會較黃，但不影響生長開花。冬季低溫寒流會落葉休眠。花期後可以進行矮化修剪，以免植株高大稀疏。繁殖使用扦插法。

Thriving in partial sun to full sun; the leaves turn yellowish if exposed to direct sun, but the growth and flowering potential is not affected. It goes dormant and defoliates in cold winter. Perform hard pruning after anthesis to keep the tree crown dense and in desirable height. Propagated by cuttings.
