杜鵑花屬常綠喬木，臺灣特有種。高可達20 m，樹幹多彎曲；樹皮薄，紅褐色，不易脫落；小枝細長粗壯，直立或斜上昇。葉叢生於小枝先端，披針形至披針狀長橢圓形或長橢圓形，革質，全緣或葉緣多少向內反捲。花7~10朵頂生或近似頂生，成繖形花序排列；花冠闊鐘形，白色，有時帶有紅色或褐色斑點於花喉部；蒴果橢圓形，有褐色毛茸。

An evergreen tree in the genus Rhododendron, endemic to Taiwan. The tree can reach 20m in height, and the trunk is often curved; bark thin, reddish-brown, not easily exfoliated; branchlets long and thick, erect or obliquely rising. Leaves tufted at the branchlet tips, lanceolate to oblanceolate or oblong, leathery, margin entire or recurved inward. Umbel, 7-10 flowers, terminal or nearly terminal; corollas broadly campanulate in shape, white, sometimes tinged red or brown flecks on the throat; capsules oval with brown fluff.

喜冷涼全日照，耐風、耐旱，喜偏酸性土壤。種子或扦插繁殖。

The plant prefers full sun and cold conditions and acidic soil; wind-resistant and drought-tolerant. Propagated by seeds or cuttings.

花朵美麗，型態特殊，可作中高海拔山區的庭園景觀樹或環境教育、生態復育使用。

Prized for the lovely flowers and unique shape, the plant is suitable to be a garden landscape tree or used for environmental education and ecological restoration in the middle and high altitude mountain area.
