南臺灣原生，菲律賓亦為原產地。常綠灌木或小喬木，樹皮灰白色，具有多分枝，小枝條直立或斜上昇，圓柱形，光滑無毛。單葉、互生，長橢圓形或長橢圓狀卵形，先端銳尖，基部鈍而歪，略呈鐮刀狀，光滑無毛，革質。花小，淡黃色或黃綠色；雌雄異株。果實卵形或長橢圓狀卵形，熟時由綠轉黃再轉紅；外果皮革質，有倒伏性毛茸。

Native to south Taiwan and the Philippines. The plant is an evergreen shrub or small tree, bark gray-white, with many branches; branchlets erect or obliquely rising, cylindrical, smooth and glabrous. Single-leaf, alternate, oblong or oblong-ovate, apex acute, base blunt and skewed, slightly sickle-shaped, smooth glabrous and leathery. Flowers small, light yellow or yellowish green; dioecious. The fruit is oval or oblong-ovate, from green to yellow, and finally red when mature; the exocarp is leathery with creeping villi.

耐旱、耐風、耐鹽，喜全日照，土壤以富含有機質之壤土為佳，排水需良好。以種子繁殖為主，亦可用高壓繁殖。

It’s tolerant to drought, wind and salt and enjoys full sun, rich organic loam and good drainage. Propagated mainly by seeding, also possibly by air layering.

可作庭園景觀樹、海岸防風定沙樹種等。紅色熟果具觀賞價值。種子可播種成小品盆栽(種子小森林)。嫩葉是尖翅粉蝶幼蟲最喜歡的食物。熟果枝條可作插花用材。

It can be garden landscape trees, coastal windbreaks and sand-fixing trees, etc. The red ripe fruits are ornamental. The seeds can be sown into seed bonsai pots (small seed forests). The new leaves are the favorite food of caterpillar of Appias albina semperi Moore. Branches bearing ripe fruits can be used as flower arrangement material.
