大鳳龍是單生的柱狀仙人掌，原產於墨西哥。淺綠色漸變灰色，一般高2~3m，在原產地株高可達13m，基部直徑可達35cm，約有50條稜。側刺7~9支，長1~2cm。中刺1支。該屬植物喜歡溫暖、乾燥和陽光充足的環境，不耐寒，冬季最低溫度不能低於15℃，耐乾旱和半陰，也怕高溫和水濕。

A solitary cylindrical cactus, native to Mexico. The plant is initially greenish and then gray, generally 2~3m high, but could grow up to 13m in the native habitat. The base can grow to 35cm in diameter and produce 50 ribs. There are 7 to 9 radial spines 1~2 cm long and 1 central spine. Plants of the genus prefer warm, dry and sunny environments. Not cold-resistant, so it can’t survive winter when temperature is lower than 15 °C. It’s resistant to drought and partial shade but can’t survive high temperatures and excessive water.

全日照溫暖至冷涼環境，因植株高大且質量重，栽培介質須有足夠重量以支撐植株，可使用砂質壤土、赤玉土混合碎石種植。定植後不宜過度澆水。每季施用一次長效性綜合肥料。繁殖使用播種、扦插法。

The plant enjoys full-sun, warm to cool environments. As the plant is tall and heavy, the medium soil must be firm enough to buttress the plant, preferably sandy loam or red earth soil mixed with gravels. Don’t water the plant too frequently after it’s grown in place. Apply long-active compound fertilizers once a season. Propagated by seeding and cutting.

Valued for the unique shape, the succulent plant is often chosen to present in plant promotion programs which carry out ornamental breeding competitions as well as used in special landscape layout and floral combination potted plants. It has an indispensable role in home greening and landscaping.
