天料木屬落葉喬木，原產南亞至東南亞熱帶地區，臺灣亦有原生分佈。分枝性強，小枝有細毛或近無毛。單葉，互生，具葉柄，卵形至橢圓形，膜質，葉基楔形，葉尖鈍形至銳形，葉緣為鈍鋸齒至鋸齒緣，嫩葉褐紅色，老葉會變紅。花小呈白至淡黃色，圓錐形總狀花序，腋生，被短柔毛。花期春至夏季。果為蒴果；種子橢圓形，有稜。

A deciduous tree in the genus Homalium, native to South Asia to Southeast Asia as well as Taiwan. The plant is highly branching and the branchlets have fine hair or nearly glabrous. It produces alternative single leaves, with ovate to elliptic petiolate, membranous, cuneate leaf base, leaf apex blunt or acute, leaf margin with rounded teeth or serration. New leaves are brownish red, and turn red when ageing. Flowers small and pale yellow, axillary racemes conical and pubescent. Flowering from spring to summer. Capsule fruits bear elliptic and ribbed seeds.

全日照溫暖環境，土壤適應性強，但以富含有機質壤土為佳，排水需良好。以播種或扦插或高壓繁殖。

The plant favors full-sun and warm environments, highly adaptable to soil, but well-drained loam with rich organic matters is preferred. Reproduced by seeding, cutting or air layering.

木材堅重，紋理細緻，可供家具、雕刻用。樹形優美，可當庭園樹及造林樹種。民間使用具收斂功效的根，主治療泌尿系統疾病，枝葉治瘡瘍腫毒。

The timber is solid and finely grained and can be used for making furniture and engraving. The tree is shaped beautifully and a great garden tree and afforestation tree species. The roots can be used in folk medicine to treat urinary system diseases while the branches and leaves have healing effects on ulcer and swelling.
