海芋屬宿根性草本，原產菲律賓。株高可達1.8m。球莖橢圓形。綠色葉柄上有咖啡色斑馬狀橫斑紋，因而得名，葉柄較修長。箭形葉長45~100cm，幼株葉片窄長、成株葉片較寬，葉面深綠、葉背淺綠。長橢圓形佛焰苞綠色，肉穗花序白色，開花期夏季。

A perennial herb in the genus Alocasia, native to the Philippines. Plant height up to 1.8m. Bulbs oval-shaped. The green and slender petiole has brown zebra-like horizontal stripes, hence the common name. Leaves arrow-shaped, 45-100cm long, narrow and long when young and wider when mature. Leaf surface dark green and underside light green. Spathe long oval and green, spadix white, blooming in summer.

半日照溫暖環境，高濕度可以促進生長。使用富含有機質的培養土種植，介質略乾或葉片萎軟就澆水，水直接灌入介質中，沖淋葉片易使葉面產生白色水垢。春夏季各施用一次長效性綜合肥料。寒流時應移至室內避寒，以免落葉休眠。繁殖使用扦插、分株法。

The plant does best in partial-sun and warm environments. High moisture can promote the growth. Culture soil rich in organic matter is preferred. Water the soil when it slightly dries or the leaves show a sigh of wilting. Avoid watering on the leaves as it will cause white scales on the leaf surface. Apply a slow-release compound fertilizer once in spring and summer. During the chilly winter, move the plant indoors to prevent defoliation and dormancy. Propagated from cuttings and division.

葉柄斑紋特殊，在室內擺放適合在較高位置，以便凸顯植物特色。天南星科植物汁液有草酸鈣結晶，沾染皮膚會發癢，栽培管理時可戴手套防範。

Place the plant in a higher position indoors to accentuate the unique mottling petioles. Alocasia plants contain calcium oxalate crystals in the sap which can cause skin irritation if incidentally contacted, wear gloves when handling the plant.
