衛矛屬常綠灌木，原產日本、韓國與中國華北的濱海地區；在臺灣僅產於蘭嶼。小枝4稜形。葉對生，革質，倒卵形或橢圓形，鈍鋸齒緣。聚繖花序5~12朵花，花白綠色。淺紅色蒴果球狀，成熟會開裂露出橘紅色假種皮的種子。開花期夏季，結果期夏至秋季。

An evergreen shrub in the genus Euonymus, native to the coastal areas of Japan, South Korea and North China; only present in Lanyu in Taiwan. Branchlets 4-angled. Leaves opposite, leathery, obovate or elliptic, obtusely serrated. Cymes 5-12 flowers, whitish green. Light red capsules spherical, ripen seeds cracked and revealing orange-red aril. Flowering in summer, and fruiting from summer to autumn.

全日照或半日照冷涼至溫暖環境。能適應強風吹襲，在排水良好處皆可種植。具耐旱性，生長迅速，萌芽力強，可常修剪整形。繁殖使用播種、扦插法。

Preferably full sun or partial sun, cold to warm environment. Highly resistant to strong winds, it can thrive in well-drained fields. Featured with drought tolerance, rapid growth, strong germination, it can be frequently trimmed into shapes. Propagated by seeds and cuttings.

葉片油亮，耐灰塵與空氣汙染，是工業區與都市道路旁綠化使用以及濱海地區綠化的優良樹種。常作為綠籬、綠帶與灌叢使用。花能吸引昆蟲訪花，果實能誘鳥，具有生態價值。斑葉種常種植成修剪整形的盆栽，或切下枝葉作為花材使用。

The leaves are bright, resistant to dust and air pollution. It is an excellent tree species for greening in industrial areas and urban roads, and greening in coastal areas. Often used as hedge, green belts, and thickets. Flowers can attract insects to visit flowers, fruits can attract birds, and have ecological value. Variegated species are often planted into pruned or shaped pots, or cut branches and leaves are used as flowers.
